Rashid Latif in Trouble After PCB Criticism Triggers Investigation

Rashid Latif, a former national captain, has been the subject of an inquiry by Pakistan’s cybercrime agency after he criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, over the frequent changes in the leadership of the national team.

Rashid Latif appeared on Wednesday, November 19, to record his statement in two separate enquiries in Islamabad and Lahore, according to National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) spokesperson Najeebullah Hasan. According to Hasan, the investigation began when the PCB’s senior legal manager, Syed Ali Naqvi, filed an official complaint. Soon after the complaint was made, the investigations got underway.

“In two enquiries against him in Islamabad and Lahore, former wicketkeeper Rashid Latif has recorded his statement,” Hasan said in a statement that India Today cited.

“The ODI captain is Shaheen Shah Afridi. Divide and rule policy is a political tactic used to seize and hold onto power by dividing a populace along religious, ethnic, cricket team, or class lines, according to Rashid Latif post on X.

In his opinion, Pakistan is still the only significant cricketing nation that cannot produce a trustworthy skipper, he added. In recent months, Latif has voiced his opinions on a number of cricket-related topics. He told The Times of India during the Asia Cup 2025 that tensions between the two nations were now visible on the pitch as well, and that the strain around the India-Pakistan match had increased.

He also implied that off-field events throughout the competition were adding to the uneasiness, suggesting that he was not quite sure what was going on. Rashid Latif also discussed what he saw as a growing cricketing divide between the two teams, contending that although T20 cricket would have unforeseen results, India was still the superior team overall.

He cited the size of the IPL and the domestic cricket system in India as reasons why he thought there was a big difference between the two leagues. Separately, Wasim Akram, the former captain of Pakistan, has been the target of another allegation alleging that he promoted a betting app. He has not yet received a notice from the NCCIA.
