Ranji Trophy 2024: Prithvi Shaw is back after a six-month absence and is included in Mumbai's squad for Round 5.

Indian teenage batting star Prithvi Shaw has been included in Mumbai’s squad for the fifth round of the Ranji Trophy 2023–24, marking his official return to competitive cricket after a six-month absence. Bengal will play the 41-time champions starting on Friday, February 2, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Notably, Prithvi Shaw has been out of action since August 2023 because of a knee injury he sustained while competing for Northamptonshire in the One Day Cup. He had to have surgery in London as a result and then recuperate for three months. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru recently cleared the 24-year-old following a fitness test.

ESPNcricinfo reports that although Shaw was expected to return sooner, the NCA medical panel required him to complete three weeks of intense mobility drills and workloads centered on higher skill levels before granting him clearance.

Prithvi Shaw was having a fantastic run in the One Day Cup 2023 before becoming hurt.

He was his team’s top run scorer, with 429 runs from four innings at an average of 143 and an incredible strike rate of 152.66 with two hundreds.

Against Somerset, he hit 28 fours and 11 sixes for his highest List A score of 244 (153). Against Durham, the opening batsman added an undefeated 125* (76) to record back-to-back hundreds. The cricketer Prithvi Shaw, who was born in Maharashtra, last appeared for India on July 25, 2021, in a Twenty20 international match against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

He was also included in the team for the January–February 2023 T20I series against New Zealand.

Shaw made 595 runs in 10 innings during the previous Ranji Trophy season, which included a brilliant effort of 379 off 383 against Assam, which is also the second-highest total in the tournament’s history. Aside from his lengthy innings, he struggled to score consistently, managing only one half-century in the remaining nine innings.

Mumbai tops the Group B standings.

He also didn’t have a great performance in the IPL 2023, managing just 106 runs in eight innings, which ultimately resulted in his removal from the starting lineup. Mumbai, meanwhile, leads Group B in the Ranji Trophy 2023–24 after winning three of their last four games to accrue 20 points. They will almost certainly go to the knockout stages.

Mumbai team: Prithvi Shaw, Jay Bista, Bhupen Lalwani, Amogh Bhatkal, Shivam Dube, and captain Ajinkya Rahane. Prasad Pawar (WK), Hardik Tamore (WK), Aditya Dhumal, Mohit Awasthi, Dhaval Kulkarni, Roystan Dias, Suryansh Shedge, Tanush Kotian, Atharva Ankolekar, and Sylvester Dsouza are the individuals listed.
