Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar for 12-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a cricketer from Bihar, made history by being the fourth-youngest player to debut in the Ranji Trophy. Suryavanshi made his debut for Bihar against Mumbai at the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna at the age of 12 years and 284 days. Vaibhav quickly gained popularity on social media after making his debut, with many people expressing how surprised they were to see the young cricket player competing in the nation’s oldest red-ball competition.

Regular for India B U19, Vaibhav scored half-centuries in 2023 against England U19 and Bangladesh U19. Bihar selectors granted him an opportunity in the current Ranji season after observing his growth in the national colors and in the Coochbehar Trophy, when he hit 151 runs off 128 deliveries against Jharkhand.

Vaibhav’s father, meanwhile, expressed his satisfaction in watching his son compete against Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, and Dhawal Kulkarni—some of the most illustrious names in Indian cricket. He went on to say that his kid enjoys playing an aggressive style of cricket and that he will likely perform well in the current season.

Ranji Trophy Day 1 saw Mumbai post 235/9.

Mumbai’s half-centuries from Bhupen Lalwani and Suved Parker helped set the tone for the current Ranji Trophy. The pair put up an important 91-run stand when all the other batsmen were having trouble in the middle, helping the Shams Mulani-led team record 235/9 on Day 1. Tanush Kotian played some outstanding cricket towards the end of the day, scoring 50 runs off 69 deliveries. Despite Mumbai’s struggles most of the time with the bat, his knock lifted them to a decent position.

Veer Pratap Singh was on point with the ball. Sakibul Gani and Himanshu Singh both claimed two wickets, while he claimed four. In the wee hours of January 6, they would eagerly anticipate taking Mumbai’s last wicket and applying pressure with the bat.
