Ranji Trophy 2024: Rahul Singh Gahlaut, a Hyderabad prodigy, stuns Nagaland with a double century

Rahul Singh Gahlaut, a rookie from Hyderabad, made history in the Ranji Trophy by displaying astounding batting ability to start the 2023–24 season. With nine gorgeous sixes and twenty-three boundaries, Rahul’s bat played a masterful symphony against Nagaland’s bowling attack on the first day of play, scoring an incredible 214 runs off just 157 deliveries.

Hyderabad was forced to bat first, and they took full advantage of the chance. By the end of the day, their scoreboard had ballooned to an incredible 475 runs at the expense of 5 wickets, which prompted their declaration. Rahul Singh Gahlaut, who was making his debut, was the main player in this impressive performance. He struck with such aggression that he could hardly miss the boundary with the ball.

Tanmay Agarwal, who opened the innings with an excellent 80 runs before he was replaced, made a significant contribution. Rahul and captain Tilak Varma combined to create a dominant 118-run stand that proved to be too much for the modest-looking Nagaland bowling unit.

Nevertheless, Rahul’s outstanding century was cut short when Khrievitso Kense of Nagaland eventually broke Hyderabad’s imposing partnership by removing him at a stunning 214 runs. In addition to making history, Rahul’s historic innings signified his accomplishment of scoring more than 3,000 runs in first-class cricket. With nine hundred and fifteen half-centuries to his credit, he has collected an astounding 3,141 runs at an average above 41 in 43 matches. His career-best knock of 214 runs remains unsurpassed.

Rahul’s ability to play cricket was further demonstrated when he achieved the second-fastest Indian First-Class double century in history. The century was reached in an impressive 143 balls, and the innings concluded with a thunderous six. Ravi Shastri, who played for Bombay versus Baroda at the Wankhede Stadium, still holds the record for the fastest Indian double century in first-class cricket. He accomplished this feat in 123 balls.

Rahul has demonstrated his batting ability in his past assignments. He was the leading run scorer for Services in the 2022–23 Ranji Trophy season, with 505 runs at an average of 38.84 in seven matches. He was the first batter in Services’ history to score more than 450 runs in a single season, which was an amazing accomplishment.
