Ranji Trophy 2024: Agni, the son of Vidhu Vinod Chopra, breaks the first-class record in the first four games with a century.

After making his Ranji Trophy Plate League debut for Mizoram last month, Agni Chopra became the first batter to accumulate four hundreds in his first four first-class matches.

The 25-year-old Agni Chopra is the child of renowned director Vidhu Vinod Chopra and cinema critic Anupama Chopra. The talented cricketer’s father recently directed the film 12th Fail, which has received positive reviews from both critics and viewers. Now, the younger Chopra has assumed responsibility for spreading greater joy around the family.

In his first four Ranji Trophy matches,

Agni has scored 166, 92, 164, 15, 114, 10, 105, and 101 against Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya, in that order Ranji Trophy.

This season, Ranji Trophy he has scored the most runs in the competition (767 runs at an average of 95.88) across eight innings. His strike rate of 111.81 when scoring runs demonstrates that he has outclassed the opposition bowlers.

Following his stints as an Under-19 and Under-23 representative for Mumbai, Agni’s coach, Khuspreet Singh, recommended that the player join a different side in order to obtain the “playing time” required to demonstrate his abilities. It would not be simple to break into the senior Mumbai team, considering the fierce rivalry that exists in the cricket-mad city.

“Since my arrival in Mizoram, everyone has been incredibly kind and inclusive, and there are two more advantages: Mohit Jangra and KC Bhai (KC Cariappa). I’ve never felt alienated from them since they are friendly and inclusive. I feel like I’m in the same spot even if I’ve learned a few Mizo terms and phrases,” Agni was cited by ESPNcricinfo.

The top 32 teams in the Ranji Trophy compete in four groups in the Elite League, while six other teams—five of them from the northeast—play in the Plate League. Agni acknowledged that the Plate League and Elite League bowling differed in caliber. His goal is to advance Mizoram to the Plate League final, though, since that will secure their promotion to the Elite League for the upcoming campaign.

“People will say what they want to say, but in the end, what matters is how you perform, and many guys in the same division don’t score that many runs. Everyone must adhere to the same standard. My goal is to elevate Mizoram to the elite class, and I believe that I am attempting to be present. There is no need to worry about bowling quality if we are in the Elite category, and I will represent Mizoram,” said Agni.

I enjoy watching movies, but I’ve never been passionate about it.  Agni Chopra

Agni stated that he had been asked several times as a child if he would pursue a career in movies. Although he enjoyed watching movies, the batter claimed that it was never his passion.

Since I was a little child, people have asked me if I would make movies, but I never imagined that I would. I never considered the idea that, “Well, since my dad is a filmmaker, I should apply; it will be a simple path for me.” Movies never piqued my curiosity. Although I enjoy viewing movies and have a fantastic time doing it, Agni said, “It was never my passion.”

According to Agni, his father let him and his sister pursue their careers freely and advised them to strive for excellence in whichever field they decided to pursue.

Agar tumhe sadak par mochi banna hai, apne sadak ka finest mochi banna, is what my dad’s father told him, which he shared with my sister and me when we were little. Be the best cobbler on your street if you want to become a cobbler. He allowed us to do as we pleased, but he also urged us to strive for excellence. Talent can only get you so far since the rest is a product of your labor, as I have seen in his films. I could see that the amount of effort my mother and father put into their careers had an impact on me,” Agni concluded.
