The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) posted job openings for a number of coaching roles following the end of the ODI World Cup, including assistant coach, batting coach, pace bowling coach, analyst, strength and conditioning coach, and analyst. But there was no posting for the spin bowling coach position, which remained open following Rangana Herath contract expiration. The former Sri Lankan cricket player has been handed a new position to promote spin bowling around the nation, so BCB officials are in no hurry to part ways with him.
It is said that BCB is aware of Herath’s extremely restricted role in the national squad, where he is primarily responsible for developing one or two spinners. With that in mind, the governing body extended an opportunity to him to become a spin mentor. Under this post, the 45-year-old will work with spinners across a range of age groups and will be with the cricket players for a minimum of 200 days.

Though he said he would speak with his attorney before making a final choice, he expressed no qualms about accepting the position and sharing his knowledge with all the players and other coaches. The former spinner went on to claim that he was “keen” and that spending 200 days in Bangladesh wouldn’t bother him.
According to Cricbuzz, Rangana Herath stated, “I am pretty keen on working that way because, you know, since we don’t have many spin bowling coaches, I’d like to get together with whoever we have at the moment to share my knowledge and expertise with the coaches as well as the players.”
“I always say that,” the Bangladeshi spinners I mentor say. I’ve worked with the national team and led three to four spin bowling camps in the last 2.5 years. I’d like to keep doing this, and I’m confident that everyone involved will be in agreement. That’s the fundamental notion so that, once we have a suitable platform, we can collaborate,” he continued.
