Cricket fans have been eagerly awaiting the current five-match Test series between India and England, and the first two matches have shown why. Both teams have won one match each, despite playing fantastic cricket. The hosts triumphed by a commanding 106 runs in Visakhapatnam after England lost the first Test by 28 runs in Hyderabad.
From now on, the third Test will take place at the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) Stadium in Rajkot, starting on Thursday, February 15. But the stadium is going to acquire a new name before the action starts. The stadium will bear Niranjan Shah’s name, a former first-class cricket player. Prior to the third Test on February 14, Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), would announce the new moniker.
The ceremony will be presided over by Jay Shah, and key BCCI executives have been invited as well. According to News18, SCA secretary Himanshu Shah states, “We will have confirmations from all the dignitaries and office bearers we have invited in a few days.”

Himanshu also hoped that the players from both teams, who are expected to arrive at the stadium on February 14, would be able to attend the occasion. This schedule most likely means that optional training sessions will be available in both England and India.
Shah continued, “We hope the players can make it as well, but we can’t confirm this just yet. The invites will be sent out.”
Shah is notable for having participated in 12 first-class matches for Saurashtra from 1965–1966 and 1975–1976. For almost forty years, he was also the secretary of the SCA. Shah also held the position of secretary for the BCCI for a while. He is highly regarded for his services to the sport of cricket in Saurashtra and was instrumental in securing Test venue status for the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
