Since the players are receiving their meals from “one of the finest hotels,” BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla dismissed the possibility of food contamination and poisoning on October 4 (Saturday), despite initial concerns about possible food contamination at the hotel where the players are staying.
India’s “A” and Australia’s “A” are playing their third and final unofficial ODI in Kanpur today, and despite their outstanding performances on the pitch, the tourists have been tormented off it.
During the 50-over matches, four members of Australia’s “A” team are suspected of contracting food poisoning; speedster Henry Thornton was reportedly hospitalised because of the severity of his illness.
Rajiv Shukla went on to say that all four players would have become ill if there had been contamination.
All of the participants, even the Indian guys, would have become ill if there had been a problem with the food. Rajiv Shukla stated, “It must have been something else,” according to The Statesman.
They are receiving meals from Hotel Landmark, one of the best hotels; the cuisine is delicious and is consumed by all. We are dealing with the possibility that some players may have become infected as a result of their illness.
There aren’t many hotels, which is the problem. There aren’t the 300 rooms we need in a five-star hotel. There isn’t a 24-hour international airport in the region. They would have had an advantage if better plans had been made.
Rajiv Shukla responded, “In the case of the IPL, everything depends on the franchises,” when asked why these problems typically arise in domestic matches rather than during the IPL. They make all of the decisions regarding the players’ accommodations; the BCCI has no say in the matter. They pick the hotel of their choice.
After losing the first ODI, Australia “A” won the second one handily, bringing the unofficial ODI series to a 1-1 draw. Earlier, KL Rahul’s undefeated 176* helped India “A” finish a record chase of 412 and win the two-match unofficial Test series 1-0.
