Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Rajat Patidar misses out on well-deserved century, falls to 92 vs Kerala

With their outstanding innings in their separate matches, Rajat Patidar of Madhya Pradesh and Ruturaj Gaikwad of Maharashtra have once again captured attention in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024–25.

At the Sports Hub International Cricket Stadium in Trivandrum, Madhya Pradesh’s star batsman Patidar made a vital knock against Kerala in a Group C match, reaching 92 off 142 balls, just eight runs short of a well-earned century. The catch was completed by Akshay Chandran, and the right-hander was removed off the bowling of Nedumankuzhy Basil. MP gained a lead of more than 220 runs thanks to Patidar’s innings, which was full of 11 boundaries.

This season, Rajat Patidar performance has been absolutely outstanding.

With 519 runs at a 51.4 average in the Ranji Trophy 2024–25, he has maintained his excellent play from earlier competitions. He scored 226 runs at an average of 56.5 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025, and he smashed 428 runs with a strike rate of 186.08 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024.

Throughout his last 16 innings in all forms, he has continuously produced memorable performances, such as an undefeated 132 earlier this season. Patidar’s two-ball duck in the first innings put his side on a down note, but he got them back on track in the second innings.

Ruturaj Gaikwad recovers by knocking in 89 runs.

In another Ranji Trophy match, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of Maharashtra, defeated Baroda with an incredible 89 off just 83 balls. Despite having 14 boundaries and two sixes in his excellent knock, he was 11 runs short of a century. His side is now almost 400 runs ahead thanks to the middle-order batter’s bold knock.

With only 10 runs removed in the first innings, the Maharashtra batsman had a difficult start to the game. But he made a spectacular comeback in the second innings, scoring a half-century with just 39 balls.
