The Rajasthan Royals, who won the first Indian Premier League (IPL), are rumoured to be looking to sign England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler to a multi-year deal. Jos Buttler is a fan favourite. He plays for Paarl Royals in the SA20 and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.
Jos Buttler ability to win games by himself with the bat could be a reason for this deal. The franchise has already seen how good he is at this during the Indian Premier League 2022 (IPL 2022).
The Telegraph recently said that Rajasthan Royals are seriously thinking about giving Buttler the lucrative deal. But only time will show how things turn out in the future and if Buttler decides to sign the deal if he is offered one.
Also, Jos Buttler is not the only player said to have been offered a deal like this. The Daily Mail said earlier that the five-time IPL champion Mumbai Indians were also interested in signing star English pacer Jofra Archer to a similar deal.
But if you sign a franchise cricket deal, you might have to give up your spot on the national team’s contract. If a player gets a permanent contract with a cricket franchise, the national team’s board would have to ask permission from the franchise to use the player for international duty.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is fighting hard to keep players from signing multi-year contracts with teams. The ECB is allegedly trying to keep the players by offering them multi-year contracts and a higher match fee.
But it might be hard to stop the players from getting contracts with different teams, since that helps them stay in the game longer. Since the players won’t be playing as many Test matches, focusing on white-ball cricket for yearly tournaments could help them stay in shape and even give them more options for representing their countries in the big ICC tournaments.
