Rahul Dravid talks candidly about mentoring his son Samit Dravid

The 18-year-old Samit, whose name has been making the rounds for his incredible junior cricket skills, was instrumental in leading Karnataka to the Cooch Behar Trophy final. India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, recently opened up about mentoring his kid.

The all-rounder has three half-centuries and 370 runs at an average of 37.78 in just seven games. Throughout the tournament, the right-arm seamer has also claimed three wickets. David has stated that he doesn’t coach his son since it’s challenging to be both a dad and a coach at the same time.

“Samit ko coaching karne ki koshish hi nahi karta hu.. Coaches and parents don’t get along well. Parent rehne ki koshish kar rha hu, usme bhi pata nahi mai kya kar rha hu (I make no attempt to coach Samit). Being a coach and a parent are difficult roles. I attempt to remain a parent. I don’t know what I am doing in that either,” Dravid told Jio Cinema.

Further moving forward, Dravid commented on the rapid growth of left-handed hitters in the team, such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh and Tilak Varma. But he clarified that it wasn’t the sole factor used to choose the squad.

The addition of players such as Rinku, Jaiswal, and Tilak has enhanced the bow’s beauty. But in the end, we don’t just choose batsmen based on their left or right hand; we also do it based on their performance. Left-handers are still available in our lineup. But left-handers are not the only thing that matters; their ability to play through a period and handle various spin types is also important,” he continued.

India will continue to be coached by Rahul Dravid until the 2024 T20 World Cup

Dravid, meanwhile, is scheduled to stay on as head coach until the USA and the West Indies host the T20 World Cup in 2024, after his contract was recently extended. Despite their outstanding performances in all forms, the squad has not been able to win an ICC title under his leadership. For the Men in Blue to break their 11-year ICC Trophy drought, the forthcoming World Cup will therefore be vitally important.
