Joking, Rahul Dravid concludes his time with the Indian team on a positive note

Following the national team’s exciting seven-run triumph over South Africa to secure the T20 World Cup title and snap an 11-year ICC title drought, India’s head coach Rahul Dravid offered a memorable moment of levity.

Thinking back on his trip and the team’s victory, Dravid wisely announced that he would be leaving soon. He joked that he wouldn’t have a job the following week and asked if there were any offers.

Rahul Dravid’s sense of humour served as a perfect coda to a moving and arduously earned win. The victory was a major turning point for Indian cricket as well as for Dravid personally, who during his brilliant playing career never took home a world championship.

I have truly been at a loss for words these past few hours. This team’s ability to overcome adversity makes me incredibly proud of them. Even now, in my opinion, that was a fantastic testament—for the team to lose three wickets in the first six overs, to be in the situation we were in—but the guys simply never gave up and never lost faith in themselves, Rahul Dravid stated, as cited by the Times of India.

Dravid conveyed his sincere thanks and delight in his team’s achievements as he stood down following their victory in the T20 World Cup. He referred to his experience as “phenomenal” and expressed his gratitude for being a member of this special changing room.

“First of all, there is no salvation. I am not one of those guys that considers stuff like atonement and that. Many other athletes I know have failed to bring home a prize,” Dravid remarked.

“This is a journey of (over) two years, this is not a journey of this T20 World Cup, the construction of this team, the kind of skills we wanted, players we wanted, discussions started when I started in September 2021.”

Being in a dressing room like this is amazing and very pleasant. I’m eternally grateful to the team and support workers for making this happen; it’s a memory I will never forget,” he continued.
