It has been proven that Kagiso Rabada used cocaine when he was found taking it in January, which led to his one-month suspension from the IPL this year.
Rabada’s positive test result for “benzoylecgonine, metabolite of cocaine” was posted on the website of the South African Institute for Drug Free Sport (SAIDS) on Tuesday. The fast bowler acknowledged and apologised for his actions in response to news reports in May, but he has not disclosed the specifics of the incident.
Kagiso Rabada stated that he “returned to South Africa from participating in the IPL for personal reasons,” according to a statement issued by the South African Cricketers’ Association on May 3. I returned an unfavourable analytical finding for recreational drug usage, which is what caused this.
“I sincerely apologise to everyone I have disappointed. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to play cricket. This is a far greater advantage than myself. It surpasses my individual goals.
Rabada would have probably received a far longer suspension if the chemical he used had been performance-enhancing rather than recreational. As a result, he would have missed the June 11 WTC final between Australia and South Africa at Lord’s. However, Rabada will undoubtedly receive scathing remarks from the Australians over the matter.
After Zubayr Hamza, Rory Kleinveldt, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, and Robbie Frylinck, Rabada is the fifth cricket player on SAIDS’ list of shame. In those ranks, however, he is by far the most well-known player.
Compared to other sports in South Africa, cricket has maintained a very clean sheet. 73 rugby players, 78 bodybuilders, and 83 athletes make up the 435 players listed on the SAIDS registry.
