R Sridhar has been chosen by Sri Lanka Cricket as the fielding coach for the national squad. He will serve till the ICC men’s T20 World Cup concludes in March of next year.
Formerly, from 2014 to 2021, Sridhar, a BCCI Level 3 trained coach, was the fielding coach for the Indian men’s team. He was the Afghanistan team’s consultant coach more recently. Before managing the team’s preparations for the T20 World Cup, he will now focus on raising Sri Lanka’s fielding standards while collaborating closely with the team on the forthcoming tours of England and Pakistan.
According to an SLC announcement, R Sridhar stated, “Sri Lankan players have always stood for instinctive brilliance, resilience, and collective spirit.” “My role is not to impose a system, but to nurture an environment where athleticism, awareness, and pride in the field can grow naturally.”
Early this year, Sridhar led a 10-day specialised fielding program at the National High Performance Centre, so he is already acquainted with the Sri Lankan system.
“Fielding thrives when players feel connected to the ball, to each other, and to the moment,” R Sridhar said.
“Sri Lanka’s traditional strengths – quick hands, sharp reflexes, and fearless intent, can be further enhanced by creating realistic, game-like learning environments.”
