R Sridhar, a well-known figure in the Indian team’s coaching staff, has been an Assistant Coach for the Afghanistan squad. His brief visit would end when Afghanistan finished their three-match ODI series against South Africa and their one-off Test match against New Zealand. It is noteworthy that the 55-year-old participated in over 300 games for the Indian squad as a fielding coach.
In two ICC ODI World Cups and two T20 World Cups, R Sridhar served as the Indian team’s fielding coach.
In addition, from 2014 to 2017, he served as the bowling coach for the Kings XI Punjab (now known as the Punjab Kings). In terms of his playing career, he has represented India in domestic cricket, appearing in 35 first-class and 15 List-A matches. Subsequently, he served as the fielding coach for India’s head coaches, Duncan Fletcher, Anil Kumble, and Ravi Shastri.
The seasoned coach has assistant coaching and spin bowling coaching experience with the Indian U19 national team. He holds a level-3 certification in coaching. From 2008 to 2014, he was employed with the National Cricket Academy with the same duties. After Ajay Jadeja, the Karnataka native would be the second Indian to be involved with the Afghanistan cricket team. Jadeja was appointed as the team’s mentor in advance of the 2023 World Cup.
Following a seven-year, four-month tenure as coach of the Indian team from 2014 to 2021, Sridhar opened his coaching academy in Hyderabad in January 2022. Under the title “Coaching Beyond – My Days with the Indian Cricket Team,” he has penned a book about his experiences as a national team coach.

It is noteworthy that Trevor Penney, a former cricket player for England, was replaced by Sridhar as India’s fielding coach. Penney had served in that capacity from 2011 to 2014.
