R Ashwin, a former Indian cricket player, believes that India’s loss to Australia in the opening ODI of the three-match series had no bright spots. In Perth, the hosts took a 1-0 lead with a DLS method victory of seven wickets with 29 balls remaining.
Additionally, R Ashwin expressed his hope that Nitish Kumar Reddy would be given additional chances to express himself with the ball. In his first appearance in the format, Nitish bowled 2.1 overs without taking a wicket while scoring 19 off 11.
“This game had no positive lessons, with the possible exception of Nitish Reddy’s batting. It is what it is, after all. Our day wasn’t good at all. I hope Nitish has more opportunities to bowl. India needs to keep up this seam-bowling attack, in my opinion. With just 131 to defend, it will be difficult to appraise the bowlers,” R Ashwin said in a video posted to his YouTube page.
R Ashwin also believed that, depending on the circumstances, Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna might be included in the starting lineup for the next games.
“You might want to bring in Kuldeep Yadav if the weather is a little bit drier. Prasidh Krishna is absolutely worth looking at in this series, in my opinion. You can visit Prasidh if Harshit isn’t working very well,” he continued.
India reached 136 in their 26 overs, losing nine wickets in the process. Rain interrupted their innings multiple times. No other player from the visiting team was able to score a significant amount, with the exception of Axar Patel (31 off 38) and KL Rahul (38 off 31).
The Mitchell Marsh-led team brought down the amended 131-run mark in just 21.1 overs, despite the bowling efforts of Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar, who each took one wicket.
Adelaide will host the second ODI on October 23 while Sydney will host the third on October 25. Five Twenty20 Internationals will follow the 50-over leg.
