With the T20 World Cup 2026 rapidly approaching, former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has selected two of India’s most powerful players for their T20I lineup, excluding Jasprit Bumrah. The massive event is set to take place between February 7 and March 8.
In order to defeat the Men in Blue, Ashwin clarified that opposing teams would try to counter players like Varun Chakravarthy and Abhishek Sharma.
“Any team that hopes to win the T20 World Cup in India must become proficient in two areas. I have been discussing how to deal with Jasprit Bumrah up until this point. In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Ashwin said, “But I will say right now, the way I have seen Tim David handle Varun Chakravarthy, I am thinking teams will gun for Abhishek Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy if they have to get past India.”
Ashwin went on to say that teams facing India in the T20 World Cup the following year will try to employ tactics akin to those employed by Australia in the current T20I series in order to negate Chakravarthy and Abhishek.
“They will observe the strategy Australia employed against Abhishek Sharma during this series and adopt it. In order to gain leverage in the World Cup, whoever is competing would prepare similarly against Varun Chakravarthy,” he continued.
In what was generally a lackluster batting performance for India, Abhishek scored an incredible 68 off 37 balls in the Melbourne T20I, his highest hit of the current series. In the same game, Chakravarthy had an outstanding effort, taking two wickets while giving up just 23 runs in four overs.
India and Australia Down Under are presently engaged in a five-match series. They are ahead 2-1 in the series, and the fifth match is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, in Brisbane.
