On Wednesday, April 23, at the Multan Cricket Stadium, Islamabad United defeated Multan Sultans in match No. 13 of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 thanks to an outstanding all-around effort.
Multan’s Mohammad Rizwan chose to bat first after winning the toss. Rizwan had trouble finding his timing, whereas Yasir Khan appeared to be in perfect form and hit boundaries with ease. However, before Mohammad Nawaz provided Islamabad their first breakthrough, the two built a 51-run partnership within the first seven overs.
Usman Khan quickly got rolling after walking out to bat at number three. Usman hammered 47 runs in a partnership that generated 65 while Rizwan was playing second fiddle. After making a 36 off of 37 balls, Pakistan’s ODI captain left the game.
Khan played a superb performance of 61 off 40 balls, but Iftikhar Ahmed and Michael Bracewell fell cheaply. Multan finished on 168/5 in their 20 overs thanks to an undefeated 13 off six balls from Kamran Ghulam. The standout bowler for Islamabad United was Jason Holder, who gave up just 25 runs in his four overs while taking the crucial wicket of the dangerous Iftikhar.
With Andries Gous by his side, Sahibzada Farhan responded by getting his team off to a great start. Ubaid Shah got rid of the former after he hit a 22 off 13 balls. Together with Gous, Colin Munro added an 81-run partnership off of just 48 deliveries.
Islamabad United winning run in PSL 2025 now stands at five games after this victory.
Following a 28-ball 45 from the New Zealand hitters, Michael Bracewell dismissed Munro. Islamabad United got closer to the target with 55 runs off 39 deliveries from Nawaz and Gous. Gous concluded the match by striking a six off Ubaid’s bowling with 17 balls and seven wickets in the bank after the former was out for 21 in the 17th over.
With six fours and five sixes, the USA wicketkeeper-batter finished undefeated at 80 from 45 balls. Multan, however, was still lingering at the bottom of the standings after five games with just one victory and four losses.
