Once thought to be the next great thing in Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw has recently struggled with fitness, form, and off-field issues. However, the 25-year-old opener produced a strong century against Chhattisgarh in his first appearance for Maharashtra in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. He talked candidly about reviving his career after his knock.
Prithvi Shaw career was further cast in doubt when he failed to sell at the IPL 2025 auction after being cut from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team last year because to issues with his fitness and disciplinary record. Ahead of the 2025–2026 domestic season, the young player signed with Maharashtra later that year. He hit 111 off 141 balls on a challenging Chennai pitch in his debut knock.
“I’ve had a lot of ups and downs in my life, so I don’t mind starting over. Additionally, I have been up there, down there, and back up there. I believe that everything is possible. I consider myself to be a fairly self-assured individual, with a strong work ethic. I’m hoping and feeling that both my new squad and I will have a great season. He remarked, “I mean, I had my trainer [working with me] for these two to three months [before the season].” He would personally come train me. Additionally, I have a nutritionist who provides me with the food plan and other information, as is customary for dietitians. All of this has altered me both psychologically and physically in just three months.
“And, you know, it can be seen on the pitch,” Prithvi Shaw remarked following day two stumps, according to an ESPN quote.
Prithvi Shaw supported his innate offensive impulses to the demands of the game on a surface with bounce and sharp turn. Shaw quickly reached 30 off just 23 deliveries as his opening partner Sachin Dhas was having trouble getting going. He then accelerated when Maharashtra lost rapid wickets, including captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. As the rest of the batting lineup struggled, he eventually reached his first century for Maharashtra with a knock that contained 15 fours and a six.
“I believe that the scoreboard determined [my strategy].” We’re obviously down four wickets for 17 [after a 71-run opening stand]. We had a solid opening pair, but I had to have the patience to deny them the game when wickets were tumbling, and I was doing everything in my power to do so. Additionally, the wicket [in Chennai] is clearly favourable to spinners. There are numerous areas on the wicket, and the pitch is turning and bouncing. I therefore made every effort to simply be there and attempt to [make] some points. I’m playing my first game for Maharashtra, so it feels good to score a hundred. I haven’t played a three-day or four-day game [recently], so that feels good,” Prithvi Shaw continued.
Prithvi Shaw also discussed the work he has done to improve his profession. He disclosed that in order to increase his physical and mental toughness in the months preceding the new season, he collaborated extensively with a personal trainer and a dietician.
“Before it was for me, like I was trying to think bahut aage ka,” remarked Shaw. Therefore, I don’t believe it was effective for me. Right now, I’m attempting to go day by day, using whatever timetable I have for when I play matches and when I don’t.” I have a plan for my timetable. I’m paying attention day by day. After a month or two days, I don’t want to see what occurs.
I make an effort to live in the moment. At the moment, I’m that kind of person. It goes without saying that my coach, Prashant Shetty, and my family have been there for me during my difficult moments. Therefore, I don’t want to give the impression that I’m not trying hard enough since I have a lot of support,” he said.
