In a three-day warm-up match against his old Ranji team, Mumbai, on October 7, 2025, Prithvi Shaw made his debut for Maharashtra at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune, scoring an incredible century.
Maharashtra was comfortably ahead at 172/0 in 34 overs at lunchtime on the first day. Arshin Kulkarni, who was removed by Shams Mulani after a scorching innings of 186 off 139 balls, provided him with strong assistance. Siddhesh Veer later asserted Maharashtra’s supremacy by bringing up a half-century.
Before the 2025–26 season, Prithvi Shaw moved from Mumbai to Maharashtra, and his 100 runs off 140 balls gave his new team a solid start.
Both teams use the match as a warm-up for the forthcoming Ranji Trophy season. A lot of local cricket fans are anticipated to attend the Maharashtra Cricket Association’s (MCA) free admission event in Pune, especially since Prithvi Shaw will be playing against his old team and a few other celebrities, including Shivam Dube and Ankeet Bawne, will also be participating in the crucial dress rehearsal match.
In relation to the Ranji Trophy, the season’s opening round will begin on October 15 and last for four days. Mumbai is assigned to the Elite Group D, whereas Maharashtra is assigned to the Elite Group B. The campaign will begin for the Shardul Thakur-led team when they play Jammu & Kashmir away from home in Srinagar in Round 1. The exact squad for this match has not yet been announced, although Thakur is expected to captain the team.
From October 15 to 18, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team will play their season opener in Thiruvananthapuram versus Kerala, the runners-up from the previous year. An excellent chance for Maharashtrians to test their combinations and evaluate player form prior to the 2025–26 domestic season is the current practice match against Mumbai.
