Irani Cup 2024: Prithvi Shaw scores a quickfire fifty against Rest of India

Mumbai’s Prithvi Shaw struck a fifty-wicket second innings in the second innings of the Irani Cup 2024 match between Mumbai and the Rest of India at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Shaw was batting for Mumbai. He scored a late cut off Saransh Jain to achieve his fifty in some style. Mumbai’s scorecard at Tea showed them up 85 runs to 2, leading by 206 runs.

Prithvi Shaw and Hardik Tamore’s relationship was broken by the Rest of India just before the Tea.

Together, they had built up a 33-run partnership for the second wicket, and Tamore had scored seven runs before being removed. Shaw, who was accompanied by Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane, was still undefeated at 58 off 46. Before the second session ended, Saransh Jain and Manav Suthar each took one wicket.

Mumbai had amassed 537 runs in the opening innings, but thanks to Abhimanyu Easwaran’s outstanding performance, the rest of India was able to reduce the gap with 416 runs. The right-handed hitter amassed 191 runs, including one home run and 16 boundaries. Dhruv Jurel, who scored 93 runs, provided him with excellent support. Mohith Avasthi took two wickets for Mumbai, while Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian both starred with three wickets apiece.

After batting first, Mumbai had established a strong position for themselves with over 500 runs owing to an outstanding double-century from Sarfaraz Khan. With 222, the 26-year-old player was still undefeated. He also had 25 boundaries and four maximums.

Rahane appeared to be in excellent rhythm as well, but he was three runs short of a century. Batting down the order, Kotian made a solid 64 runs.
