Prithvi Shaw‘s comeback to the Ranji Trophy was a forgettable event as the gifted batsman was out for a four-ball duck in the opening over of the match between Kerala and Maharashtra. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) granted the right-handed hitter a No-Objection Certificate (NOC), allowing him to join Maharashtra before to the season. He was dismissed from the Mumbai squad the previous season due to concerns regarding his discipline and level of fitness. He played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final in December 2024, which was his final game for the team.
At the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday, 15 October, Kerala chose to field first after winning the toss. Md. Nidheesh’s strike in his opening over sent Prithvi Shaw reeling, making this decision instantaneous. Prithvi Shaw missed the on drive and was smacked on his front pad by the whole delivery of the right-arm fast, which came in with the arm from the over-the-wicket aspect. It didn’t take the umpire long to raise his finger.
Surprisingly, Prithvi Shaw spoke briefly with fellow opener Arshin Kulkarni throughout the game, as no DRS was being employed.
The umpires looked for a no-ball, but Nidheesh was spot on. Prithvi Shaw needed to return to the cabin after a lengthy trek.
Four wickets are lost by Maharashtra in four overs.
After Siddhesh Veer was removed from the game with the fifth ball of the innings, Maharashtra’s situation just became worse. After taking two wickets in as many deliveries, Kerala was carrying its tails up. Their ideal start, though, would only improve in the second over.
Kuzhy Neduman Basil got rid of Kulkarni for a golden duck with a strike off his opening ball. The captain of Maharashtra, Ankit Bawne, was called into action. But in the fourth over, the 32-year-old was dismissed by Basil. By the time this wicket fell, the away team had fallen to 5/4 in 3.2 overs. Now, it will be Ruturaj Gaikwad’s responsibility to save his squad. Additionally, he will need to be accompanied by people like Saurabh Nawale and Jalaj Saxena.
