Before being disqualified from the 2025 Women’s World Cup knockout stage because of an injury she suffered against Bangladesh in the group stage, Indian women’s team opener Pratika Rawal put on an incredible display. India made history by defeating South Africa Women by 52 runs in the final to win their first-ever World Cup, even though she was not present.
According to ICC rules, which stipulate that only players in the final roster are eligible, Pratika Rawal was not awarded a winner’s medal because Shafali Verma took her position following her injury. But according to recent sources, ICC President Jay Shah is trying to make sure Pratika Rawal gets the medal she is due, acknowledging her significant role to the team’s successful campaign.
When the squad visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pratika Rawal was notably spotted sporting a medal. She then explained, though, that the medal was not hers but rather that of a support staff member.
Pratika Rawal confirms to @CNNnews18 – She is getting her WC medal. She was wearing a support staff medal during meeting with PM.
‘Jay Shah intervened and told us he wants to make sure I get a medal of my own. It is on the way. I will get it soon.’@BCCIWomen @BCCI @ICC— Shivani Gupta (@ShivaniGupta_5) November 7, 2025
Rawal had an outstanding tournament performance in spite of her setback. She demonstrated her class on the international scene and solidified her position as one of the main architects of India’s historic World Cup victory with her 308 runs, including a century and a half.
“I cannot put it into enough words. No words are present. My words will not escape my lips. It means a lot to me to have this flag on my shoulder. And it’s just unreal to be here with my squad, you know. To be really honest, I found it really challenging to sit down and watch the match since it’s really hard. Playing indoors is much easier than observing from the outside. However, I just got chills when I saw this atmosphere and this energy. Every time a wicket was taken or a sixer was made, you could feel the excitement. “It’s incredible,” Rawal remarked.
