Modi praised the efforts of departing head coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, and star batsman Virat Kohli in a string of poignant remarks. After the triumph, Sharma and Kohli both declared their retirement from Twenty20 international cricket.

The Indian cricket team made history on Saturday night when they defeated South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final at Barbados to win the T20 World Cup.

One of the first people to congratulate the team was Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who spoke with them over the phone on Sunday morning and praised their outstanding performance throughout the competition.

“Spoke with the Indian cricket team, extending my congratulations for their outstanding performance in the Twenty20 World Cup. They have competed with great talent and spirit the entire tournament. The dedication of every athlete is incredibly inspiring, PM Narendra Modi said on X (formerly Twitter).

“Greetings, @ImRo45. You are the epitome of greatness. Your aggressive playing style, batting, and captaincy have elevated the Indian team to new heights. Your Twenty20 career will be cherished memories. Modi added, “Delighted to have spoken to you earlier today,” praising Sharma’s influential career and leadership.
