I believe playing India is always a huge challenge at World Cups: Amelia Kerr

Amelia Kerr, a successful all-rounder from New Zealand, disclosed that she prefers to play India over Australia in ICC events. In her opening match against India in the 2017 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, the 23-year-old was without a wicket.

She did, however, play a major role in New Zealand’s victory in the 2022 edition, finishing with figures of 3/56 and scoring a half-century. No matter where they play, India consistently receives a good amount of support, according to Kerr. The New Zealander also noted that, particularly on the sub-continent, playing spin effectively presents a significant difficulty when facing the Women in Blue.

“I believe that competing for India at World Cups is always a wonderful challenge because, no matter where they play, they always have a fan base behind them. And for them, spin is crucial,” Kerr was cited by ICC 100% Cricket Superstars.

“I think it’s a great challenge to be able to play spin well, especially in sub-continent conditions.” Playing them is always a challenge, and they have some world-class players, so I think that’s a crucial match-up,” she continued.

The most significant wickets are those that alter the course of the game: Amelia Kerr

Amelia Kerr tricked famed batter Mithali Raj in the air during India vs. New Zealand’s 2022 World Cup match, getting her out. The Wellington native claimed that taking big wickets like these makes her very happy when playing cricket.

“When they don’t pick you is my fave wicket. You get through the gate ahead of someone. And I suppose the wickets that mean the most are definitely the ones that transform a game, come from one of the team’s finest players, and you kind of break through with something exceptional,” the player said.

Initially bowling as an all-rounder, Kerr has developed into one of New Zealand’s most effective scorers in the upper order. Her coach gave her the opening position when she was just 17 years old, and she created history by defeating Ireland with an undefeated 232, the greatest total in Women’s ODI history. She refers to this match as a career turning moment.

“I had never started the batting before, but the coach informed me that I would be doing so now. At that moment, I was always in the lower tier, so I simply wanted to take advantage of the chance and do something exceptional,” Kerr said in closing.
