Coach Phil Simmons elated with Bangladesh's strong return vs West Indies

After losing badly by 201 runs in the first Test, Bangladesh came back strongly in the second Test against the West Indies, winning by 101 runs. There was a lot of pressure on the Mehidy Hasan Miraz-led team going into the second match, especially because some players were missing, including Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan (retired), and Najmul Shanto.

At Jamaica’s Sabina Park, the inexperienced tourists put on a fantastic display. As Bangladesh set a target of 287 runs, they batted admirably, especially Jaker Ali, who struck 91 in the second innings. West Indies batsmen struggled in both innings, reaching 146 and 185. Taskin Ahmed took five wickets in the second innings, while Nahid Rana took five in the first.

Head coach Phil Simmons expressed his admiration for the batters’ positive aim as they left the pitch after the game.

In addition, the former cricket player praised the players for their tremendous motivation to bounce back from the first game’s defeat.

I was impressed by the hitters’ upbeat demeanour as they came out. During the first few games [after I took over], they had a survival mentality. It was evident on the third day that people were saying, “I’ve come to play the game.” It was wonderful and enjoyable to me. I made sure they understood that this is how we must play going forward. These youthful players were anticipating the victory in the Test match. It’s good to see them bounce back from the first Test match loss. Simmons was cited as adding, “It’s a complete joy for me.”

Next up for Bangladesh is a three-match ODI and T20I series against the West Indies, which begins on December 8. The squad will continue to be led by Miraz while Shanto is away.
