Phil Salt

With one ball left, Phil Salt’s undefeated century as the opener enabled the tourists win by seven wickets.  Saturday, December 16, saw the third Twenty20 International between England and the West Indies in their five-match series take place at the National Cricket Stadium in St George’s Park, Grenada. It was crucial for England to win the third match in order to salvage the series after losing the opening two Twenty20 Internationals. They had an extremely difficult task ahead of them: pursuing a target of 223.

The 27-year-old, who was declared Player of the Match, expressed his belief that he would soon score a significant amount and gave praise to England captain Jos Buttler for his 51 runs off of 34 balls. It seems like a long time in coming. We’ve been discussing what it means to be the group’s match winner. We attempted to reduce it to 60-70 in the final five overs. There’s a method out there. played it my way. The part involving Jos was essential. During the post-match presentation, Phil Salt proclaimed, “He is among the best in the world.”

Phil Salt reached the elusive three-figure mark in just 51 balls, making it the third-fastest T20I century for England.

He finished on 109 from 56 balls without losing, hitting four fours and nine sixes. England got off to a terrific start under Jos Buttler and Salt, scoring 115 runs in just 12 overs. In consecutive overs, Buttler and Will Jacks lost their lives as the West Indies rallied to win the match.

But Liam Livingstone and Salt put together a 70-run partnership off of 34 balls to put England just one wicket away from a historic victory. Salt had to lead his team home after the former was out for a fun eighteen-ball thirty. Harry Brook proved to be a capable ally, hitting a six off the very first ball he faced. From the last over, the away team needed to score 21 runs.

The task of bowling the West Indies to victory was given to Andre Russell. But Brook had other ideas. He needed just five balls to lead his team—the defending T20 World Cup champions—to an incredible victory.

Earlier in the day, the West Indies brought up the massive score thanks to Nicholas Pooran’s 82 off 45 balls and helpful contributions from Sherfane Rutherford, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, and Rovman Powell. With the ball, Adil Rashid was England’s best player, finishing with figures of 2/32 in four overs. On Wednesday, December 20, the fourth Twenty20 International (T20I) is slated to take place at Tarouba, Trinidad’s Brian Lara Stadium.
