The campaign highlights the contagious spirit a nation experiences when a World Cup comes to town and stars world-class athletes Ellyse Perry (Australia), Hayley Matthews (West Indies), Lauren Bell (England), and Richa Ghosh (India). Cricket icon Andrew Flintoff makes a surprise appearance.
In anticipation of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be held domestically next summer, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have unveiled a daring new worldwide marketing campaign called Catch the Spirit.
The tournament is a fantastic opportunity to solidify women’s cricket’s place in the mainstream and will provide hundreds of thousands of fans with the opportunity to watch the best cricket players in the world play at top-tier venues across the nation.
The general sale of competition tickets takes place concurrently with the campaign’s launch. The top cricket players will compete in 33 matches throughout 24 days across England and Wales, starting on June 12 at Edgbaston in Birmingham and ending on July 5 at Lord’s. Fans are urged to purchase tickets in advance for what is expected to be a historic event in women’s sport, as demand is already high for all matches.
Lauren Bell, a fast bowler for England, stated:
“To me, Catch the Spirit entails large gatherings, memorable events, and a lot of excitement! My decision to become a cricket player was inspired by seeing the girls win the 2017 World Cup, and I have a fantastic opportunity to motivate supporters across next summer.
“We want this to be cricket’s moment because we’ve witnessed the incredible impact the Lionesses have had on football, especially after their home Euros!”
Ellyse Perry, an all-rounder for Australia, added:
“World Cups have tremendous impact on towns, communities, and families in addition to the activity on the pitch. Every international cricket event is unique, and the competition the following year looks to be amazing. The fans will not want to miss it!
Catch the Spirit encourages supporters to appreciate cricket’s ambiance, vitality, and diversity through crowded stadiums and neighbourhood gatherings. Richa Ghosh of India revealed:
“The energy, the cheering, the noise—it’s all about the fans.” Playing in England and experiencing that atmosphere is going to be incredible.
Hayley Matthews, an all-rounder for the West Indies, encapsulated the tournament’s widespread appeal:
People used to say, “Watch women’s sports to support it,” but these days, it seems like everyone realises that it’s entertaining in and of itself! It’s thrilling and enjoyable, and this World Cup will be enormous.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah stated:
With the help of some of the biggest names in women’s cricket and Freddie Flintoff’s undeniable personality, this campaign embodies the spirit of international rivalry and the intensity of a World Cup. Next year’s competition promises to be an unforgettable experience for spectators worldwide, featuring top players from across the world and an amazing atmosphere brought by England and Wales. That contagious spirit is being celebrated in this campaign!
