"The selection Reports: PCB to organise connection camp to chart out the restoration route of the Pakistan teamlacks a resource pool." - Mohsin Naqvi criticises the depth of Pakistani cricket

The Pakistan Cricket Board plans to hold a “connection camp” in order to turn things around before hosting their next international series. This is because they have plenty of time before those series begin, having already lost to Bangladesh in an embarrassing series and been eliminated in the group stages of both the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 50-over World Cup last year.

According to a report by Geo News, the program would involve the senior management of the governing body in determining the next steps that they would like the squad to take to improve their current position.

Mohsin Naqvi, the PCB’s chairperson, will preside over the meeting with senior cricket players and board members, as well as Gary Kirsten, their head coach for limited overs and Test cricket, respectively, and Jason Gillespie. It is anticipated that the summit will take place on September 22, 2024.

The same report stated that discussing the possibility of passing the captaincy baton will be one of the main agenda items for the meeting. Previous rumours indicated that Mohammad Rizwan might be selected to take Babar Azam’s place as Pakistan’s white-ball captain going ahead.

After turning in a progress report in July, Kirsten had already left for South Africa, while Gillespie led the Bangladesh series and went back to Australia when it was over.

The Champions One-Day Cup is a domestic competition that the board also announced five teams for. It is scheduled to start on September 12, 2024. The likes of Mohammad Haris, Saud Shakeel, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Rizwan will captain their respective teams.

In order to help the Pakistan cricket team get back on track for the upcoming series, the PCB is hoping that the camp they have scheduled can help them get more guidance on how to move forward.
