PCB removes captains and head coaches from selection panel in major shake-up

The national selection committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has undergone some significant changes. Removing team captains and head coaches from the panel and giving decision-making authority to a newly formed five-member committee is the most significant change.

Following Pakistan’s dismal innings and 47-run loss to England in the first Test match in Multan, this reorganization was done.

PCB greats Aleem Dar, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, and Hassan Cheema are on the new selection panel, which is headed by former fast bowler Aaqib Javed.

The power to choose the team, including the important responsibility of choosing the starting eleven for forthcoming games, currently rests with this group.

The head coach and captain will still be consulted, but they will no longer be able to vote in the selection process. This modification will facilitate decision-making and guarantee that choices are made with a wider, more impartial viewpoint rather than being swayed by on-field leadership.

The Australia white-ball series team will be announced by the selection committee tomorrow.

The results of the restructure have already been outstanding. While spinner Sajid Khan produced a spectacular recovery with seven wickets in an innings, setting the greatest bowling stats for a bowler in Tests in Multan, debutant Kamran Ghulam scored a century in the second Test. The new selectors have received appreciation for their efforts, which supports their strategy for choosing the team.

Meanwhile, there has been significant criticism of the decision to bench former captain Babar Azam in spite of recent support from stand-in captain Shan Masood and interim coach Jason Gillespie. In addition, the selection committee’s first task is to reveal Pakistan’s teams for the forthcoming ODI and T20I series in Australia.
