Champions Trophy 2025: PCB receives additional funds from ICC for India-Pakistan venue difficulties

In order to solve possible location issues for the future Champions Trophy 2025, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken decisive action, especially with reference to matches between India and Pakistan. Pakistan is slated to host the Champions Trophy 2025 in the early months of that year. The Indian cricket team’s participation in Pakistan is still up in the air, though, because of the continuous political hostilities between the two countries.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has always insisted that permission from the government is required before any matches can be played in Pakistan. The apex cricketing council approved the Champions Trophy 2025 budget in its recently finished meeting in Colombo. The budget now includes additional costs to account for the possibility that the Indian team may need to play outside of Pakistan.

The ICC’s financial commitment to developing adaptable solutions to guarantee the tournament’s success is demonstrated by this provision. The ICC has been tasked by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) with ensuring India’s participation.

Zed News reports that the PCB has sent the ICC with all relevant information in its statement of interest document, including a draft schedule that would hold all of India’s matches—including probable semifinals and finals—in Lahore. The tournament’s much awaited India-Pakistan showdown is supposedly scheduled for March 1. This scenario bears a striking resemblance to the Asia Cup 2023, where a “Hybrid Model” was adopted to let India play its matches in Sri Lanka and Pakistan host the remaining matches.

Regarding India’s participation, the PCB, led by Mohsin Naqvi, has not held formal negotiations with BCCI Secretary Jay Shah or other officials. Rather, the PCB has delegated authority to the ICC to finalise and announce the schedule of the event and to obtain confirmation from the BCCI on India’s participation.
