The video went viral, showing Tareen publicly tearing up a legal notification he received from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Between the two parties, this has caused a great deal of disagreement. If Sultans did not issue an apology for his remarks, the PCB had threatened to revoke his franchise agreement. Tareen’s statements would be blacklisted if he didn’t retract them.
One of the most valued teams in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is the Multan Sultans, which is owned by Ali Tareen. Out of the six franchises, he pays the highest annual cost of USD 6.35 million for the team.
Though it was sarcastic and made fun of the PCB and PSL officials, Tareen did offer an apology.
After news leaked that the PCB had sent Tareen a notice requesting that he publicly retract his remarks, the party decided to push the issue to the public’s attention on Thursday, October 23. Tareen, who hails from a prominent family with a history in politics and business, has consistently questioned the accuracy of the PCB’s claims regarding the PSL’s financial performance and had accused them of mismanaging the league in a number of podcasts and tweets.
During one of his podcast appearances, Tareen said that the PSL has fallen to the “fifth or sixth” rank among franchise leagues worldwide due to “incompetent management.”
Needless to say, after receiving the notice, the unstoppable Tareen took to social media to publicly express his ire. He said, “This is my apology,” and tore the notice. A number of people have expressed their support for him after seeing the video.
