PCB Chairman provides update on Saim Ayub's injury as Champions Trophy team awaited

Pakistan is preparing to host the first-ever ICC event on its territory after an almost 29-year break as the Champions Trophy 2025 countdown draws closer. Since the nation’s cricket team won their last ICC trophy in 2017 in the same highly sought-after mega cricket match, the event is far more significant to them. Although they have developed a number of players since winning their most recent championship, the squad suffered a severe setback when its opening batsman, Saim Ayub, was injured.

Notably, during the opening Test of the just finished Test series against South Africa, Ayub hurt his ankle while fielding. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had arranged for England’s top sports orthopaedic specialists to treat the batter’s ankle after he was sidelined for at least six months. The 22-year-old’s status in the Champions Trophy team is still up in the air, though.

Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the PCB, recently gave an update on his recuperation, though.

“In one to two days, Saim Ayub’s leg cast will be removed. He will next begin the recuperation phase, which will require time. I communicate with the team about his condition on a regular basis. One Champions Trophy shouldn’t jeopardize his future,” Naqvi stated, as reported by Zee News.

Pakistan’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad has not yet been revealed, in contrast to other teams. The preliminary squad had to be unveiled by January 11 and the final squad had to be unveiled by February 11. Mohammed Rizwan, who was been chosen the new white-ball captain and will succeed Shaheen Afridi, will undoubtedly head the team when PCB announces the names next week.
