Australian captain Pat Cummins may miss all or part of the Test series against Sri Lanka that is scheduled for next year, according to recent sources. At around the same time, Cummins and his wife, Becky Boston, are said to be expecting their second child.
During a recent interview, he stated that the primary reason he would miss part of the Sri Lankan trip would be the impending birth of their child.
Yes, it undoubtedly plays a role. “We haven’t decided on the specifics yet—it’s difficult to schedule the day,” Cummins told the Sydney Morning Herald.
Only four days after his son’s birth in October 2021, Cummins had to fly to the United Arab Emirates for the T20 World Cup due to biosecurity regulations. The 2023 World Cup-winning captain lamented not spending more time with his wife and kid, Albie.
Cummins said, “Last time, I missed a lot of my son Albie’s early days, and I want to figure out how we can spend a bit more time at home for that initial period.”

Cummins, who came home following his mother’s tragic death during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last year, talked about the flexibility Cricket Australia offers all of its players regarding family-related issues.
“As long as it’s reasonable, nobody will ever object if someone has to prioritise their family. Since cricket is not the end of the world, we want people to play for Australia for a long time and succeed. You can’t just ask them to put their lives on hold so they can travel the world and forget about everything else. Regarding family, we’re fairly transparent,” he continued.

The timetable for the two-match series is still pending. But there’s no denying that series would be essential for Australia to maintain their chances of making it to the June 2023–25 World Test Championship final.
