"You have to make your own decisions as we are all adults," Pat Cummins said in reference to Glenn Maxwell's Adelaide pub incident.

Unexpectedly, Australian all-round player Glenn Maxwell finds himself in the news following a late-night altercation in Adelaide that is suspected to be “alcohol-related.” The cricket player was allegedly involved in an altercation at a nearby pub. Workload management caused him to be removed from the ODI squad against the West Indies. When asked about Glenn Maxwell’s behavior, Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, responded succinctly and emphasized personal accountability. He stated that people who have gone out on the town at night as adults need to make their own decisions.

“You must make your own decisions; we’re all adults who have gone on nighttime excursions. I guess that in this particular situation, he was clearly not with the cricket team; rather, he was in the area for a private function and was not on tour with the Australians. It is therefore rather different. Indeed, Cummins was quoted by India Today as adding, “You have to own and be comfortable with any decision that you make.”

Though Cricket Australia insisted that Glenn Maxwell exclusion from the ODI squad had nothing to do with the most recent incident, the move caused some controversy. In a succinct statement, the organization addressed the matter, confirming Glenn Maxwell role in the Adelaide event and indicating that more information is being sought.

“Cricket Australia is aware of an incident involving Glenn Maxwell in Adelaide at the weekend and is seeking further information,” added the statement.

Before going to a pub where former Australia bowler Brett Lee’s band was playing, Maxwell reportedly made a quick cameo at a golf club. Maxwell was taken to the hospital by ambulance at the end of the evening.

For Maxwell, who is anticipated to make a comeback for the forthcoming three-match T20I series beginning on February 9, the incident occurs at a critical juncture. Cricket Australia has chosen not to comment further despite being fully aware of the circumstances.

It remains to be seen if the all-rounder will be disciplined as the investigation progresses. The fact that Maxwell left the ODI squad at the same time as this occurred lends an interesting twist to the story.
