After an incredible 2024 as captain, Pat Cummins has had a strong start to 2025. The pacer described the emotions following the series victory as “unreal,” acknowledging his pride in the effort the hosts made.
After a ten-year wait, Australia finally won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 with a 3-1 victory in the fifth Test. Despite early setbacks, Australia was able to secure the victory with six wickets left on Day 3 when India was unable to offer a goal of only 162 runs. India is officially eliminated from the 2025 World Test Championship finals as a result of this defeat.
“It’s incredible. Some of us didn’t have this one. This series has been fantastic. We’re incredibly proud. We knew that we weren’t at our best in Perth because we’ve spent a lot of time together as a group over the years, but it was never as awful as it sounds. During the post-series presentation, Cummins stated, “So you stick tight and double down on what makes us a really good side.”
“What a unique group. I feel very fortunate to have this work in the first place. However, the accomplishments we have made in tandem with the support staff and families alike are truly a team effort. A lot of things are sacrificed by them. So, yes, I’m pretty proud of what we’ve accomplished,” he continued.
Pat Cummins also lavished debutants Beau Webster and Sam Konstas with praise.
“We frequently discuss the necessity of having a squad, particularly in these five Test match series where you seldom ever use the same starting lineup. Three debutants during the series all made an appearance, fit in perfectly, and made contributions at various points in time. This game also featured Beau’s debut match, which I felt was excellent. Therefore, it seems as though we are creating something pleasant.
After concluding the series with 25 wickets at an average of 21.36 and 159 runs at 19.87, Cummins spoke about his personal performance and stated he was “pretty happy” with the way things turned out.
“I’m pleased with my performance during the series. I think our preparation and plans were excellent. I consider myself and a few other players fortunate to have had a little freshen up before the series. You try to peak for these major series.
Fans created the series: The Pat Cummins engine
One of the many milestones set during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 was the number of spectators at the MCG’s Boxing Day Test. Cummins did not hold back from emphasising the euphoria, and the series lived up to the anticipation. In addition to acknowledging the senior players’ contributions, he declared that this series was his “most favourite Test series.”
“You prepare for these major series. Our mainstays really stood up in a few critical instances. To defeat a team like India, you have to do it. The men raised their hands. It would rank among my favourite Test series. Thanks to Jasprit and Rohit. The series was created by the supporters. All of the locations were fantastic. MCG was completely crazy. Here in Sydney, there have been three sell-outs in three days. demonstrates why Test cricket is so unique and why we enjoy playing it so much. It’s a terrific way to start the year to see everyone wearing pink and supporting a worthy cause,” Cummins continued.
