‘Little bit more in it for us bowlers’- Pat Cummins reveals how Australian pitches have changed over years

"The first couple of series I played in 2017, 2018, 2019, they were pretty flat in most venues, whereas most venues now I think get the balance really well between bat and ball," Cummins added.

'Little bit more in it for us bowlers'- Pat Cummins reveals how Australian pitches have changed over years

For the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India will be touring Australia. The first Test is set to start in Perth on November 22. The playing conditions in the upcoming series are the subject of a lot of excitement before of the tournament. Venues would support bowlers and hitters equally throughout the series, according to Australia skipper Pat Cummins.

The fact that India has won the last two series in Australia just heightens the tension, as the Australians are really focused on winning the trophy this time around. These teams are also the favorites to advance to the finals because they are ranked first and second, respectively, in the World Test Championship points table.

Speaking about the decks in Australia, Pat Cummins also believes that occasionally, batters will be able to take the lead.

“Over the course of the previous four or five years, I believe they have made quite a few wicket changes. I believe that it offers us bowlers a little bit more. While most venues these days, I believe, extremely nicely balance the bat and ball, the first two of series I played in 2017, 2018, and 2019 were pretty flat. “I believe that in five test matches, you will experience a little bit of everything,” Cummins stated in an interview with Star Sports.

There will be matches that move swiftly, but there may also be one or two test matches where the action becomes particularly grindy and attritional. I believe there are moments when bowlers are salivating when the circumstances are right, but I wouldn’t be shocked if there were a few days where hitters might also benefit greatly,” he continued.

It is noteworthy that the host team won the series 2-1 in the last iteration of the competition, which took place in India. Notably, in 2014–15, Australia emerged victorious in the Border–Gavaskar Trophy. As opposed to the four-match series held previously, the teams will be competing for the Trophy in a five-match series for the first time.
