Australia captain Pat Cummins has made it clear that he intends to participate in all five Ashes 2023 matches. Notably, the star pacer took a break from the game and did not participate in the recently concluded Indian Premier League. As a result, he is ready for the World Test Championship final and the marquee series against England.
Meanwhile, the 30-year-old clarified that player selection will be subject to rotation throughout the Ashes. Josh Hazlewood, who is currently recovering from an Achilles injury and a side issue, is expected to participate in the first Test against England; therefore, it will be fascinating to see how Australia’s bowling lineup will look. David Warner’s form will also determine whether or not he participates in all six matches (the WTC final and five Ashes Tests).
Cummins has stated that he was exhausted and depleted earlier but is now eager to go for the remainder of the season.
“It’s a matter of equilibrium. I’ve previously been fatigued and depleted but I still felt like I did an excellent job. However, if this issue arises at any point, there will be a conversation. I intend to play all six, and there are ample pauses between every pair of two Tests, so I believe it will be possible. Pat Cummins struggled greatly with his fitness early in his career, and he recently disclosed that he once believed that Test cricket was not his cup of tea. He stated that bowling only ten overs would weary him out. However, he credited the physiotherapists and physicians with helping him recover swiftly and play 50 Test matches.
“I believed a return to Test cricket was so distant for much of that. I believed I could play T20 or one-day cricket, but after 10 overs per day, my body felt like it had been in a car accident. In retrospect, all the physiotherapists and individuals who experienced this before me were spot-on. You will eventually turn a corner and be correct. However, when you’re in your fifth iteration of stress fractures, 50 tests seem far away.
“I always consider longevity to be as significant an accomplishment as average or strike rates or anything else related to performance. Test cricket is difficult. You play around the globe under various conditions. It is physically demanding. “Therefore, for a fast bowler to play 50 matches is a significant accomplishment,” Cummins added.
