Pat Cummins

During his 2017 return to the Australian Test squad, Australian captain Pat Cummins revealed that he experienced exhaustion due to excessive cricket. In 2011, the 30-year-old made his debut in Johannesburg against South Africa. However, he played his second test after an absence of over five years due to injuries that plagued his career.

Recently, the fast bowler stated that cricket is played year-round, and he himself played nonstop for two years. Pat Cummins, recalling his return to international cricket after a lengthy absence, disclosed that he experienced burnout as a result of the busy schedule and resolved to balance his life in order to prolong his career.

The Hindu cited Pat Cummins as saying, “Cricket is basically a year-round sport; there’s always a game going on somewhere, and I played nonstop for a year or two.”

“This was roughly four or five years ago, when I was recovering from injuries. And I was exhausted to the point of burnout, and I recall thinking, ‘Geez, I’m 25 but I want to continue doing this until I’m 35’.” I must find a way to balance all of these things,” he continued.

The renowned fast bowler started training a few days ago in preparation for the upcoming Test season after declining to participate in IPL 2023. The World Test Championship 2023 final between Australia and India will begin on June 7 at the Oval in London.

Pat Cummins will then head his team in the first Test of the five-match Ashes series, which begins on June 16 at Edgbaston.

Cricket for Climate wishes to travel abroad. India, Great Britain: Pat Cummins
Cummins has established a foundation called ‘Cricket for Climate’ with the goal of reducing the sport’s carbon footprint. Cummins stated that he would implement his initiative in countries like India and England, where there is a great deal of room for change.

“We [Cricket for Climate] would love to go overseas, to India or England, where there is so much room for change. I do my best to normalize the discourse and improve his [son Albie’s] future by making a small contribution. I’d love to be able to look back in 10 to 20 years and demonstrate the immense impact we’ve had,” he said.

Notably, the fast bowler dominated the Test bowlers’ rankings for four years, from February 2019 to February 2023, as he was ranked number one. With 841 rating points, Cummins is presently positioned in the third position in the rankings. In the upcoming season, the Australian captain will attempt to regain his top ranking and lead Australia to the title by defeating India and England.
