[VIEW] IPL 2025: Pat Cummins discusses becoming a cricket captain

Pat Cummins discussed the difference between the responsibilities of a captain in cricket and other sports prior to the 51st IPL 2025 match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The emphasis on tactics, according to the SRH captain, was the main distinction. A cricket captain, in his opinion, needs to be fully immersed in tactics and contribute suggestions.

The Australian believed that a cricket captain must make decisions and make important choices based on instinct rather than being alone most of the time. Although coaches and other players support captains, Cummins emphasised that a cricket captain’s decision-making abilities are crucial to a team’s success or failure.

“The emphasis on the captain’s tactics is the main distinction. The truth, in my opinion, is that you are never truly alone. You have to make several calls based on your intuition. “Coaches, players, and other people always recommend you,” Cummins stated in the widely shared video of his interview with Star Sports.

The cricket captaincy masterclass by Pat Cummins

The SRH commander discussed the essential qualities he believed a captain should possess. According to him, a cricket captain’s primary responsibilities include leading colleagues, ensuring they are in a positive environment, and creating an atmosphere conducive to victory. He said he enjoyed these facets of his work. Furthermore, the star player believed that a captain’s antics on the pitch were less important than their off-field touring life.

“How you manage your teammates, ensure they are in a positive environment, and create an environment conducive to success are the other factors that, in my opinion, are perhaps more significant. “Those are the aspects of my work that I find enjoyable,” the Australian pacer continued.
