Australia had another great series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024–25), winning the fifth and final Test in Sydney to win the series 3–1. They are now the second team in the 2025 season to earn a spot in the WTC final. In addition, they are hoping to win the WTC title for the second time in a row when they play South Africa in June.
Even though Travis Head and Jasprit Bumrah were two of the series’ main highlights, the cricket community duly recognised Pat Cummins’ leadership and efforts. The Australian captain also holds the record for most wickets taken in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with 25 at an average of 21.36 in his five games. Nevertheless, he has led several lists since the series.
Cummins, who took five wickets in the Sydney Test, is currently the WTC’s top wicket-taker and the first bowler to reach 200. With an average of 22.63 and an economy of 2.94, he has accomplished the feat in just 47 games. The two bowlers who behind him in the rankings are former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin (195 wickets) and famous off-spinner and teammate Nathan Lyon (196 wickets).

With 294 wickets at an average of 22.43 in 67 games, Pat Cummins has an outstanding playing record in the format. In red-ball cricket, he has claimed 13 five-wicket hauls and two ten-wicket hauls, ranking tenth in Australia’s Test wicket-taking record.
