While Rishabh Pant‘s injury during the Manchester Test is regrettable, former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel agreed that the ICC rule prohibiting replacement wicketkeepers from batting is perfectly acceptable. Dhruv Jurel will be able to take wickets but not bat if he takes Pant’s position in the fourth Test.
“A substitute may only take wickets with the umpires’ permission; they are not allowed to bowl, bat, or serve as captain.” According to Section 24.1.2 of the ICC playing regulations, the MCC has permitted substitute wicketkeepers since 2017 in circumstances of actual illness or injury, as long as the on-field umpires give their approval.
The former cricket player for India, Parthiv, has concurred with the ICC’s playing standards allowing the replacement of a wicketkeeper. According to him, certain athletes have frequently taken advantage of the concussion substitution rule’s rules.
The Gujarati native therefore thinks that even if Pant has been hurt, the regulations set forth by the highest governing body are completely just.
“You see, teams are already attempting to take advantage of a number of murky areas. We’ve seen instances of the concussion rule being abused, such as in T20 cricket. What do you do, therefore, if someone is hurt during a game that is still going on? India Today cited what he stated.
It seems only fair to me. The regulation has altered to allow for the substitution of another wicketkeeper, at least for the time being. That wasn’t even permitted before; wickets would have had to be kept by another member of the team. However, I accept the rule. The fact that Rishabh was struck is regrettable, but it is what it is. He went on, “What can you do about it?
While attempting a reverse scoop off Chris Woakes on Day 1 at Old Trafford, Pant took a nasty blow on his toe. After being struck, he groaned in agony and was treated on the pitch. He was eventually taken away in an ambulance after being forced to leave the pitch due to his inability to recover. Pant was hitting 37 off 48 balls with two fours and one six when he was hurt.
