The recent sighting of Hardik Pandya working with a red ball during practice gave rise to rumours about his potential return to Test cricket. Parthiv Patel, however, felt that the Baroda all-rounder’s body was not in a condition to withstand the demands of the game’s five-day schedule.
September 2018 marked Hardik’s final Test match participation. Rain and a soggy outfield caused play on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test between India and Bangladesh to be delayed. Parthiv, however, shot down rumours that Hardik would be returning to the longest format, stating that the 30-year-old was only using the red ball for practice because the white ones weren’t available.
“(In Tests), I’m not focused on Hardik Pandya. The only reason he was using the red ball for practice was that the white ball wasn’t accessible. I don’t believe his body can handle five- and four-day contests. Parthiv was cited by Hindustan Times as saying, “He has to play at least one first-class game (before being considered for selection in Tests), which is very unlikely.”

The former batsman and wicketkeeper for India believes that the team lost out on Yash Dayal during the second Test match between Bangladesh and India in Kanpur. Although he would have to wait for his debut, the left-arm bowler was called up for the first time by India for the two-match series. India won’t be allowed to try new things in their forthcoming series against New Zealand, according to Patel.
The second Test presented India with Yash Dayal’s opportunity. And no, I’m not trying to undermine Bangladesh, but if this Test match is a draw, it’s crucial to acknowledge that they won’t have the opportunity to experiment because they will play New Zealand in the next series,” he remarked.
Dayal has averaged 28.89 while taking 76 wickets in 24 first-class games. He has also represented the Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
