After suffering a foot fracture during the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is expected to return to the Test team, according to an update from BCCI Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar. India’s 15-man selection for the two-match Test series against the West Indies, which begins on October 2, was revealed by the BCCI.
Although Pant has not yet fully recovered, Agarkar stated that he should be totally fit for the home series against South Africa. While he is away, Shubman Gill will head the squad, and Ravindra Jadeja will continue to serve as vice captain.
We’re hoping he’ll be fully recovered by the time South Africa arrives. At the press conference, Agarkar stated, “I know he won’t be able to make these two Test matches (against the West Indies), but after that, he’s very close to getting fit.”
Jadeja’s appointment as vice-captain was further clarified by Agarkar, who said that Pant typically serves in that capacity. However, because of his vast experience on the club, the seasoned Jadeja was given the task after Pant was injured.
“Rishabh Pant is currently the vice captain and an important member of the team.
However, he hasn’t fully recovered to play in this Test series. We hope that he will be allowed to travel to South Africa. Jaddu has a wealth of experience and has been one of the best performers. Thus, that’s really the cause,” Agarkar stated.
The senior member of the current Indian team is Jadeja. The southpaw, who has never captained the side in Test cricket, is thought to be India’s most dependable all-round player. The left-hander’s most recent appearance came during the England tour, where he displayed remarkable batsmanship and ball skills. He took seven wickets in five Test matches and amassed 516 runs, including a century and five half-centuries.
The Indian team for the two Test matches against the West Indies is:
Shubman Gill (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravindra Jadeja (vc), Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, N Jagadeesan (wk), Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav,
