Panchal on Badoni’s ODI call-up

Following Ayush Badoni’s first call-up to the senior team, former Indian domestic star Priyank Panchal has spoken out against the Delhi batsman. Washington Sundar’s substitute for the second and third ODIs against New Zealand will be Badoni, it was just confirmed.

Panchal, who gave up playing cricket altogether in May 2025, noted Ayush promise. But he also pointed out that Ayush had experienced some difficulty during his four IPL seasons thus far.

Interesting to see Badoni’s selection. It’s clear he is being groomed for the role with the India A selection too. Filled with immense promise, I’ve unfortunately found him to be lacking the grit against international quality in the IPL. Hope he has a great series tho. #INDvNZ

Regarding Badoni’s IPL career thus far, he has played for the Lucknow Super Giants from the premier T20 league’s founding.

The team has consistently supported Badoni, who has participated in 56 IPL games and amassed 963 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 138.56 with six half-centuries.

After experiencing severe pain in his left lower ribs while bowling during the first ODI in Vadodara, Sundar was declared out of the 50-over leg of the series. Sundar did not bat at his customary position throughout the chase for the same reason. After being sent to bat under Harshit Rana, the all-rounder stayed until the very finish to help India win. But when he ran between the wickets, Sundar appeared to be in pain.

After representing Delhi in the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Badoni will be joining the national team. Throughout both championships, he has been useful with the ball. If Badoni is given the chance to play in the XI, it will be intriguing to see if his off-spin is put to the test.
