Beginning on Tuesday, September 16, the Pakistani women’s cricket team will play the South African women in a three-match One-Day International series at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. In the past three years, South Africa has made three trips to Pakistan as part of their preparations for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Sept. 16, 19, and 22 are the dates for the ODIs. Laura Wolvaardt will captain the Proteas, and Fatima Sana will lead Pakistan.
Pakistan held a two-week pre-series camp in Lahore prior to the series, which included scenario-based matches and practice sessions. The team has also included Eyman Fatima, a budding star who recently made her T20I debut against Ireland in Dublin in August.
The series is especially important because both teams are trying to be ready for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2. During the tournament, Pakistan is scheduled to play all of their matches in Sri Lanka.
The last time these two teams faced each other, on September 14, 2023, in Karachi during the ICC Women’s Championship 2022–25 match, Pakistan won by a commanding eight wickets. The hosts will feel more confident after that outcome as they try to replicate their success at home.
“The team benefits greatly from a series like this in the lead-up to the World Cup. It provides the players with an excellent chance to practise what they have recently prepared for. This time, we’ll concentrate on getting more assistance from the batting unit as well, since everyone is aware that Pakistan depends heavily on their bowling attack. During the camp, we focused a lot on batting,” Sana told PCB Digital.
“This series is a crucial component of our World Cup preparations,” Wolvaardt stated. It’s a fantastic chance for us to prepare because the conditions will be comparable to those during the World Cup. With some excellent hitters and players who excel at spin, Pakistan has a strong team. I anticipate a tight competition in the series.
