Twitter Reactions: Pakistan win first ODI series in Australia in 22 years

Pakistan, captained by Mohammad Rizwan, defeated world champions Australia 2-1 on Sunday, November 10, in the third and final ODI at Perth’s Optus Stadium. Pakistan had won an ODI series in Australia for the first time since 2002.

Once again, Rizwan won the toss and chose to bowl first without hesitation. Aaron Hardie, promoted to No. 3, also left cheaply, and Jake Fraser-McGurk died early once more. On a fiery pitch, the Pakistani pacers took off stand-in captain Josh Inglis in the eleventh over.

Cooper Connolly had to leave after getting hurt while playing against Mohammad Hasnain, while Matthew Short battled before being disqualified for 22. Haris Rauf and company had their tails up, and the seasoned team of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis was unable to mount a comeback.

In the 21st over, the hosts had only lost their first six wickets for 88. The Australian hitters failed to respect the conditions and did not put in much effort in the middle. Adam Zampa and Sean Abbott built a 30-run partnership off 39 balls in an attempt to postpone the inevitable. Abbott and Spencer Johnson scored another 22 runs after Zampa left for 13.

Australia fell to 140/8 after Abbott’s hard-fought 30 was out of the way in the 32nd over. Connolly was unable to bat again as Lance Morris left in the same over, and Pakistan needed just 141 runs to win. Hasnain and Haris only managed two wickets each, while Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah both claimed three.

Rizwan and Babar lead Pakistan to victory.

To set things up nicely for the tourists, Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique combined caution and aggression, adding an 84-run partnership off 104 balls for the first wicket. However, Lance Morris dismissed them both in the same over, wasting their starts. Shafique left for 37, while Ayub made 42.

Together, the talisman pair of Babar Azam and Rizwan led Pakistan to win with 23.1 overs remaining and eight wickets taken. Babar scored an undefeated 28 off 30, while Rizwan finished undefeated 30 off 27.
