The budget was carefully reviewed and approved by the board of control for cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Jay Shah, who also chairs the organization’s finance and commercial committee, according to a trustworthy source within the ICC on Thursday.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) financial department worked together to create and present the budget, which was approved at USD 70 million (INR 5,721,800,000).
The source stated that, given the overall budget and the difficulties and costs involved in moving matches from Pakistan in the event that India decides not to send a team and has to use other locations, the extra USD 4.5 million allocation appears rather insufficient.
“Only USD 4.5 million has been allocated as additional expenses, out of an approximate budget of USD 70 million,” an ICC official was reported by Hindustan Times as stating.
The Asian Cricket Council, which is also led by Jay Shah, was in charge when the regional body decided to award Bangladesh the 50-over format of the Asia Cup 2027 and India the T20 format of the Asia Cup 2025.

The source disclosed that as per the initial plan for the upcoming Asia Cup, India and Pakistan will be paired together again, possibly leading to a rematch in the single-group Super Four phase. In addition, there’s a real chance for a third meeting if both sides qualify for the championship round by finishing first and second in that round.
“The games between Pakistan and India were the reason for the gains. If they make it to the final, there might be a third game, according to a source close to the ICC.

The Asian Cricket Council profited handsomely from the 2023 Asia Cup, which was held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the source added, despite the subsequent chaos, last-minute venue changes, and extra costs incurred during the competition. According to the same source, the super bowl matches between India and Pakistan (one of which wiped out by rain) generated the lion’s share of these earnings.
