Pakistan to host Sri Lanka for 3 ODIs in November

With Sri Lanka slated to tour the nation for a three-match ODI series in November, immediately following their high-profile all-format series against South Africa in October, also at home, Pakistan is expected to have a busy home cricket season.

Pakistan’s season acquires additional significance from the ODI series against Sri Lanka because it will be followed by a T20I tri-series that also includes Afghanistan. The tri-series, which will be Pakistan’s first home tri-nation event, will be a historic event in and of itself. The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, which has gained popularity recently and has played host to matches in this year’s ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, will host all of the matches for both the ODI and T20I legs.

The ODI assignment will be especially significant for Sri Lanka because it will be their first bilateral ODI series in Pakistan since 2019, when Pak won the three-match match 2-0, with one game being rained out. The last time the two sides faced each other in the 50-over format was at the 2023 World Cup, where Pakistan easily won by six wickets despite having to chase a difficult score.

Pakistan will have momentum going into the home season after defeating Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates to win the tri-series title.

They now turn their attention to the Asia Cup, which will include eight teams and start on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates.

Pak preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which India and Sri Lanka will jointly host early next year, will be greatly aided by the Asia Cup and the home season that follows.
