Pakistan is upset that three cricket boards in the subcontinent turned down its idea for a hybrid Asia Cup.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took a big hit when the cricket governing bodies of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan turned down the hybrid plan to compete in the Asia Cup 2023. After the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said it couldn’t go to Pakistan because of security concerns, PCB head Najam Sethi suggested a hybrid model to compete in the continental tournament later this year.

According to the PCB’s suggested hybrid model, four or five matches were to be played in Pakistan and the rest were to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). But Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), and Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) all said no to PCB’s plan. Especially important, if Pakistan has to play in the Asia Cup, they will have to do so on a neutral field.

If Pakistan wants to keep the right to host the Asia Cup, it will have to do so in Sri Lanka, which all the other countries must agree to. All three countries have turned down the hybrid model, so PCB is likely to pull out of the event. UAE will get a spot in the event of six teams if this happens.

Also, after Jay Shah, the president of the BCCI, said that the Indian cricket team would not be going to Pakistan, the PCB said that they would be taking part in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be held in India later this year.

Pakistan says “no” to the SLC’s plan to play some ODIs before the Asia Cup.
Recent reports say that PCB turned down Sri Lanka’s offer to play an ODI series when Babar Azam’s team goes there for a two-Test series. Sri Lanka had offered to host all of the matches of the continental tournament. A source from the PCB said that the plan was turned down because of the bad relationship between the two cricket governing bodies.
